Budgam: DLSA hosts awareness programme on protection against child abuse

BUDGAM, APRIL 10: District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Budgam today hosted a daylong awareness programme on legal protection against Child Abuse and Sexual Violence, here at DPS.

The programme was attended by hundreds of students, teachers, members of DLSA Budgam, lawyers and others.

The programme was presided over by the Secretary DLSA, Tabasum Qadir Parray (Munsif Judge). The Secretary   explained in detail on the child sexual abuse and rights of children through a power point presentation.  She said that the aim of organizing such programme is to aware every child of his/her rights guaranteed under different laws and about ways to fight any kind of physical, sexual, emotional or psychological abuse at the hands of any persons at home or outside home. She also spoke on the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act and POSCO laws.

The Secretary DLSA urged parents and teachers to immediately contact legal service authority, police or court in case any child abuse case takes place, to get justice to the victim, instead of trying to hide it. She also asked students to learn from the awareness session and be the ambassadors of change with sharing awareness of child rights to each student, siblings and friends to stop child abuse in the society.

On the occasion, 10 students from different schools including HSS Budgam, HSS Chrar-e-Sharief, HSS Khansahab, HSS Beerwah and DPS Budgam spoke on the topic.

Among the resource persons, Feroz Ahmad, Member Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) Budgam spoke on the role of JJB, Nazish Qadri member CWC Budgam on role of Child Welfare Committee, Hakeem on the role of Social Workers for children in need of care and protection.

Later, prizes and certificates were presented to the participating students.
