FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

JAMMU April 07: Provincial President of NC Women Wing Satwant Kaur Dogra on Sunday appealed women to vote wisely and reject those who talks about politics of polarisation, divisiveness, attacking constitution and slamming democratic institutions.

In a statement issued her, Dogra said it’s a contest between “sach and jhooth” and asked women to teach BJP a fitting lesson for betraying people with false promises.

Satwant Kaur Dogra described this election as a “crucial one” that seeks a reaffirmation of the most fundamental guarantees of the Constitution, including the rights to faith, personal liberty and freedom of expression. “To defend these rights, we must reject those who assault people, those who discriminate because of religion, caste, gender, language or region,” Satwant said, adding,  “We cannot endorse a politics that divides us, creates fears, and marginalises a large fraction of our society including women”. She appealed them to vote against inequality, intimidation, discrimination, and unreason.

She addressed a series of meetings of women workers in Jammu (Rural).  She was accompanied by Provincial Vice President Rashida Begum, Provincial Vice President Satya Kaur, Provincial Secretary Veena Oberoi and Block Secretary Chanchala Devi who also addressed the meeting.

“Where are the jobs which were promised by BJP leadership in 2014 elections”? she asked and also accused the BJP of  betraying the forward area people on the promises of shelter sheds, bunkers and 5 marla plots, saying that despite BJP govt in state and the Centre for 5 years, the people were feeling a sense of neglect and deprivation as the BJP has hugely failed in keeping its promises. She said there was a feeling of resentment among women, farmers, youths, students and Dalits and even the business community was feeling cheated. She asked women to question BJP leaders on their promises when they approach them for votes.

Dwelling upon various initiatives taken by National Conference from time to time for the empowerment of women, particularly living in far flung areas, Dogra said that today every second doctor in J&K is a female and this could be achieved only due to the foresightedness of NC president Dr Farooq Abdullah who provided 50 percent reservation to women in MBBS. While referring to the Land to Tiller Act enacted by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah which changed the economic condition of landless farmers of the State, Dogra said that history stands testimony to the efforts made by NC for ensuring economic empowerment of downtrodden.

She exhorted women workers to launch door to door campaign urging women to ensure the victory of congress candidate Raman Bhalla to strengthen secular forces.
