Srinagar, March 25:  Expressing his concern over the continued crackdown on leaders of various separatist groups, their relatives and youth, Chairman, All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Syed Ali Geelani termed it as ‘aggressive and coercive’ policy of India which, he said, was in contrast with the claims of being democratic republic.

A press release issued here said that Geelani condemned the shifting of Amir Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Hamid Fayaz to Kuthwa and criticized the crackdown on members of Jamaat-e-Islami, JKLF (both organizations were recently banned by the government) and other separatist organizations.  He alleged that these were election stunts and crossed all limits tyranny.

“As the election activities are on peak, here in the state of Jammu and Kashmir government opens the doors of prisons, interrogation centers and police stations,” Geelani said terming elections as ‘drama’ and alleging that voices that raised for basic and fundamental rights were being strangulated ‘through the barrel of gun and by the blunt sword of investigative institutions’.

Claiming that the tactic of using ‘brute force for ‘suppressing the genuine aspiration of people’ had always catastrophic ramifications, Geelani was further added that history had proven that no nation has ever succeeded in curbing the ‘freedom sentiment’ by adopting such measures. “The early it (India) understands the reality, the better it will be for the world in general and sub-continent in particular,” Geelani added.
