Justice Masoodi inaugurates 2-day workshop for JJBs of Jammu division

JAMMU, MARCH 09: Chairperson Selection-cum-Oversight Committee, Justice (Retd) Hasnain Masoodi inaugurated a two-day workshop here today for Juvenile Justice Boards of Jammu division.

The workshop based on procedures under Juvenile Justice Laws is being organized by J&K Integrated Child Protection Services (JKICPS) in collaboration with State Judicial Academy and Save the Children Organization.

During the inaugural session, Justice Masoodi highlighted the role of Principal Magistrates under Juvenile Justice System and stressed the need for developing Child sensitivity, while dealing with juveniles. He emphasized the role of ICPS to work in a missionary mode to reach the last Children in Need of Care and Protection.

Abdul Rashid Malik, Principal District and Sessions Judge Srinagar & Secretary Juvenile Justice Committee of High Court deliberated on the Philosophy, Principles and mandate of Juvenile Justice Act. He highlighted the need for vibrant Child Care Institutions for rehabilitation and reintegration of children housed in these Institutions.

G.A Sofi, State Mission Director ICPS in his welcome address called upon all stakeholders to work in tandem for the proper functioning of Juvenile Justice Boards, Child Welfare Committees and CCIs, which are a pre-requisite for the effective implementation of the Act.

Rajiv Khajuria, Member SCOC while delivering the keynote address emphasized the need to treat the children on the best principle of reformation.

Sharief Bhat, General Manager Save the Children while giving an overview of the workshop said that conducting such workshops by ICPS has greatly helped in ensuring the implementation of JJ Act.

Other Resource persons including Gitanjali Goel, Special Secretary, Delhi Legal Services Authority, Surbhi Nandan, Behavioural  Therapist at Coggwell Neuro Development Clinic, Washington USA, Ritu Mehra and Nitin Kumar Gaur, will be delivering sessions on different aspects of Juvenile Justice Laws during the two-day workshop.

Later, JKICPS also released its calendar and yearly planner for 2019.
