Providing safe drinking water to people govt’s priority: Sham Chaudhary

JAMMU, MARCH 06: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Sham Lal Chaudhary today sought the support of general public in supporting its efforts of providing safe and potable drinking water to every household of the state.

The Minister was speaking during a workshop titled “Constituency level workshop on water, Sanitation” organized by PHE department and National Development Foundation (NGO) at Baspur in Suchetgarh constituency.

The PHE Minister said that his department is making all its efforts in providing safe and portable drinking water to every household of the state and it can only be achievable when people will support their cause.

“People should judiciously use drinking water. In some causes it has been seen people are using drinking water to other purposes. It should not happen. People should save the water for others,” he said.

Sham Chaudhary said that providing safe portable drinking water is the utmost priority of the state government and far the last three years large numbers of new water supply schemes have been started by the government to overcome problem of drinking water.

The Minister said that purpose of today’s programme with a NGO is to aware people about the importance of water and its use. “People should conduct lab test of water in nearby PHE labs. The tube well water is also major sources of water to irrigate our agriculture fields,” he said.

He also asked the PHE Department to check the water quality of all hand pumps and other water resources in the area.

The PHE Minister said that both the state and central government are laying emphasis on better healthcare of people and providing safe drinking water to people is their priority.

The PHE officials on the occasion gave a presentation of how testing of drinking water is being done in their lab.

A large number of people present in the camp appreciated the effort of the department in organizing the camp.
