Budgam, Jan 31: Residents of Otligam village of Beerwah area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Thursday held a protest to press for their demand of upgradation of Government Otligam High School to Higher Secondary.
Blocking Budgam-Beerwah road, amidst sloganeering, the protesters said that their area comprises of more than 20 villages, which is in dire need of Higher Secondary and government must provide the same.
They alleged that their demand was on priority but Chief Education Officer (CEO) Budgam has given incorrect feasibility report, due to which the upgradation of school has been dropped.
“CEO in a feasibility report has mentioned that the nearest Higher Secondary to Otligam is 2 kms away, which is incorrect. We request higher officials of education department to come and examine distance on the spot,” said Abdul Rashid Wani, a local.
Raising slogans against CEO and Director School Education Kashmir, the protesters said that in absence of Higher Secondary, the students of the area are forced to leave their studies midway.
“Beerwah Higher Secondary is 8-9 kms away from our area. It’s not easy for our students to visit Beerwah regularly,” Mudasir Ahmad, a protester complained
It is worth mentioning that Otligam village falls in the constituency of former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
