SRINAGAR, JUNARY 28: A One-Day training and orientation workshop on water-bird census was held at Hokersar Wetland under the supervision of Wetland Warden, Wetland Division, and Department of Wildlife Protection J&K Govt.

More than 50 staff members including In-charge officers of all wetlands of Kashmir division and number of volunteers participated in the Workshop in the backdrop of Asian Water-bird Census 2019.

Besides presentation on findings of Asian Water-bird Census-2018, training was imparted on techniques and methodology of water-bird census. An elaborate insight into the characteristic attributes and identification of water-birds was given by Wetland Warden, Wetland Division. Many NGO’s and volunteers put forth their valuable suggestions to make the census more effective and result oriented.

The aim of the bird count is to monitor the population fluctuation trends of migratory birds in valley wetlands besides knowing the status of valley wetlands and to collect an overall figure as to incorporate the same with the general bird count throughout India and Asia done by Wetlands International (India).
