SRINAGAR, JANUARY 16: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today said that providing best health care was the priority for government and Government Medical College (GMC) has been at the forefront of providing affordable patient care to all sections of the society.

The Divisional Commissioner made these remarks while reviewing the functioning of GMC and associated hospitals.

The meeting was informed that seven hospitals, Govt. Nursing Home, AMT School and College of Nursing are associated to GMC Srinagar. The seven associated hospitals are SMHS, Lalla Ded, Bone & Joint, GB Pant, Chest Diseases, Psychiatric Diseases, Super Specialty Shireen Bagh Hospitals and Govt. Kashmir Nursing Home Sonwar with an aggregate of 2505 bedding capacity.

Last year, over 15.50 lakh patients were treated in these health institutions. H1NI ward is already functioning in Chest Diseases hospital with all Medicare facilities, he was informed.

State of Art new infrastructure of Government Super Specialty Hospital has been constructed at Rs 137.02 crores. From July 2017 to December 2018, 3289 surgeries were conducted in this hospital. Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Government Psychiatric Diseases hospital has been completed at a cost of Rs 28.84 crore under NMHP for Up-Gradation of Psychiatric Diseases Hospital to the level of centre of excellence.

The Divisional Commissioner directed hospital management to chalk out effective strategy to provide quality, enhanced, timely and hassle free Medicare services, which should be easily accessible and affordable to the patients in winter days.

He stressed upon them to put in their best efforts for the improvement of medical facilities in the hospitals. Also ensuring that  the diagnostic sections like MRI, USG, X-Ray, and CT Scan etc function round the clock in all GMC associated hospitals for the convenience of the patients during winter days.

It was further informed that new projects which are under execution in Health Care sector are the establishment of two New Medical Colleges at Anantnag and Baramulla at a project cost of Rs 189 crore each, 500 Bedded Maternity cum Children Hospital Bemina Srinagar at Rs 89.89 crore, Burn Centre at SMHS Hospital Srinagar at Rs 6 crore, Model Rural Health Research Centre in Khag Budgam at Rs 6.50 crore, Nursing College  and Hostel at Rs 45.45 crore, New IPD and OT Block at Lalla Ded Hospital under World Bank assistance, New 120 Bedded Specialized Orthopaedic unit with 06 Bedded ICU at Bone & Joint hospital and other projects.

The Divisional Commissioner directed the authorities to expedite the construction work so that new health care institutions will start delivering quality health care facilities to the patients.

“Government is working round the clock to provide best health care facilities to the people. The focused thrust is on the improvement and installation of latest machinery in all hospitals so that the people  are not forced to the go outside the state for advanced treatment”, he added.

On the occasion, Khan said that the Government is working with a holistic approach to improve the health sector in the valley and the focus is on both”Affordable Healthcare” and “Preventive Healthcare.”

Principal GMC Dr Samia Rashid, all Medical Superintendents and other concerned officers were present in the meeting.
