Polling held in Rakhshalina, Narbal, BK Pora blocks of Budgam

Rakhshalina (Budgam), Dec 08: Seven polling stations were setup at Government High School Rakhshalina where voting for lone Sarpanch and Panch seats was held on Saturday.

Meanwhile, voting was held in Narbal and BK Pora block of Budgam.

In BK Pora, a total of 467 (20%) voters turned out to cast their ballots out of 2335. While only five votes (0.17%) were polled in Narbal out of 2880, said officials.

Pertinent to mention that only one each Sarpanch and Panch seats in BK Pora, among 30 and 227 went to polls, while voting was seen only for one Sarpanch Halqa among 10 Sarpanch and 88 Panch seats in Narbal.

BK Pora is divided into 30 Sarpanch Halqas and 227 Panch wards. While Narbal has 10 Sarpanch Halqas and 88 Panch wards.

In BK Pora, 16 aspirants had submitted nominations for Sarpanch seats and 44 for Panch wards. The papers of one each Sarpanch and Panch contestants were cancelled. Five Sarpanch and 10 Panch candidates withdrew. 22 Sarpanch and 195 Panch are lying vacant.

Six Sarpanch and eight Panch candidates filed nominations papers from Narbal, out of which three Sarpanch and four Panch nominees withdrew. Further, eight Sarpanch and 84 Panch wards remained vacant.

BK Pora Panachayat block has the highest number of Sarpanch seats among the 17 blocks of district Budgam.

Seven Sarpanchs and 31 Panchs in BK Pora were elected unopposed. Similarly, one Sarpanchs and four Panchs in Narbal also won without fighting.

Pertinently, ninety nine percent of the seats in the penultimate phase of Panchayat election did not witness any polling in Budgam due to lack of candidates.
