SK Pora block in Budgam witnesses no polling, Khag records 34.78% for 24 seats among 249

Budgam, Nov 29: No voting took place in Sonoor Kali Pora (SK Pora) block of Budgam district in the fifth phase of Panchayat elections on Thursday.

Khag block registered 30.78 percent turnout for the 24 seats among 248, said an official.

A total of 13 and 18 candidates were fighting for six Sarpanch and 18 Panch wards in Khag respectively.

Out of 6906 votes, 2402 were cast in Khag with most of the votes polled in Habber Panch ward where 491 electorates turned to cast their ballot out of 689.

SK Pora block has nine Sarpanch Halqas and is further divided into 81 Panch Wards, among these six Sarpanch and 78 Panch seats are lying vacant. While three Sarpanchs and Panchs were declared winner without any contest.

Khag block has 26 Sarpanch Halqas with 222 Panch wards. Seven Sarpanch and 141 Panchs wards did not see any voting. Also, 13 Sarpanchs and 63 Panchs were elected unopposed.

Only six nominations were filed for Sarpanch seats in SK Pora. The nomination papers of one candidate were rejected and two contestants withdrew their candidature. While as five candidates submitted nominations for Panch wards, later two withdrew.

In Khag, 39 candidates submitted nominations for Sarpanch seats among which two were rejected and 11 withdrew. For Panch wards, 112 nominations were filed, two were rejected and seven candidates withdrew.
