Srinagar police arrests gamblers; bootlegger

Srinagar, February 28: Srinagar police has arrested four gamblers and recovered stake money of rupees 8340 from the gambling spot in Noorbagh area.

A police spokesman in a statement said that acting on a tip off, a police party of Police Post  Noorbagh led by In-charge PP Noorbagh Ajaz Ahmad raided a gambling site at Cement bridge. During the raid 04 gamblers who were identified as Mehraj-ud-Din resident of Gassi Mohallah Safakadal, Shabir Ahmad Kaloo resident of Cement Kadal, Tanveer Ahmad Dar resident of Bemina and Tariq Ahmad Sofi resident of Cement Kadal Noorbagh were apprehended. Stake money of rupees 8,340 and playing cards were recovered from the gambling spot.

A case FIR number 24/18 under section 13 Gambling Act was registered and investigation was taken up.

Meanwhile, Srinagar police has arrested a bootlegger and seized about 60 bottles of illicit liquor and his vehicle in Pantha Chowk area of the City.

Acting on an specific information, a police party of Police Station Pantha Chowk under the supervision of SDPO Pantha Chowk intercepted a Maruti Zen vehicle bearing registration number JK03 A 0001 driven by Mohammad Syed Shah son of Ghulam Rasool Shah resident of Pamposh Colony Bijbehara, Anantnag. On checking the vehicle, 60 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered. The supply was meant to be distributed among the youth of South Kashmir.

A case FIR number 15/2018 under section 48 Excise Act was registered against him and investigation was taken up.
