Srinagar, November 20: A family from Tengpora whose lone son was allegedly murdered by his own friends two months ago today held a protest here demanding the case to be transferred to some senior police official for ensuring transparent investigation.

The family members of Ubaid Altaf Dar, 19, whose dead body was recovered near Toyota showroom at Tengpora two days after he went missing, alleged that he was killed by his own friends who were released by the police without furnishing bail orders from the court.

Shouting slogans “arrest suspects, do justice with Ubaid” the family members including parents and other relatives of slain youth gathered at Lal Chowk here and staged demonstrations to protest “arbitrary” release of the suspects.

Recalling the day when Ubaid left his home in the evening, his father Altaf Ahmad Dar said when he did not return home they lodged a missing complaint in police station Batamaloo.

“Ubaid again left home at 7pm in the evening after returning from showroom where he was working as a salesman. We kept searching him for two days but failed in our efforts. Finally we lodged a missing report at concerned police station to seek his whereabouts,” said father of Ubaid.

He said the police detained his friends for questioning after obtaining call details of Ubaid who claimed that they met an accident near Toyota showroom at Tanegpora on the fateful evening.

“When they were brought to police station they made a strange revelation that Ubaid fled after they met an accident near Tengpora but when a police team visited the spot they found dead body of Ubaid lying there,” he adds.

Dar said the case was then referred to police station Parimpora for investigation as the area where his son’s body was spotted falls under the jurisdiction of Parimpora police.

The family members raised query that how come dead body of Ubaid was lying there when he had already fled from the scene after accident.

They appealed the Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Swayam Prakash Pani to clear the air on mysterious death of their lone son.

“My son was undoubtedly killed by his friends who made misleading statements before the investigation officers of the case. The irony is the concerned police station is yet to file FIR into the case while the suspected murderers were released without furnishing bail orders from the court,” said the father of slain youth.

The family members demanded that a formal case should be registered to probe the killing of their son, besides both the suspects be rearrested failing which they will be forced to hit streets in protest.
