Sopore || Nov 07: Commuters in Sopore town of North Kashmir are facing hard times with public transport disappearing from the roads as the evenings set in.

According to locals, Public transport including Sumo’s, buses and mini buses are usually not available for the commuters during early and late evening hours, posing problems for government employees, businessmen, local commuters as well as students alike.

People allege that the problems were even worse for commuters along the Dangerpora, Duroo Hardushiva Warpora and Janwara villages of Sopore Zaingair belt forcing the commuters to either go for car-pooling or hire taxis.

“With the onset of winter, the problem gets worse each year. It is dark even at 5:30 pm and there are no traces of transport anywhere in the area. Apart from the inconveniences faced by the people, the security issues too pop up.,” said Faheem Iqbal, resident of Duroo village, a shopkeeper in the Sopore Town.

Stating that the matter shall be looked into with immediate effect, ARTO Sopore, assured that measures shall be taken to ensure that commuters do not face any inconvenience. “Our first priority is to provide better transport facilities on all routes, and it is unfortunate if some areas have transport problem in the evening hours. I have personally inspected all routes a few months ago and transporters have assured me that commuters will not face any problem,” Assistant Regional Transport Officer Sopore Mohammad Zubair Lattoo told Kashmir Images.
