Literati club, IUST, presents theatre performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth

Awantipora, Nov 06: The Literati club, Department of English Language and Literature presented a theatre performance of William Shakespeare’s famous play Macbeth at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) here on Monday.

According to a statement issued here, keeping into consideration the overwhelming response of the audience two shows were held. An artistic performance of this magnitude was performed for the first time in the IUST Campus.

On the occasion, Vice Chancellor, Prof Mushtaq A Siddiqi hailed the club for its impeccable performance amid limited resources and theatre space constraints. “Such artistic creative ventures needs to be encouraged on the campus as theatre is a necessary element of university education and it also provides different insights into scientific breakthroughs,” he said.

The theatre personality of Kashmir Bhawani Bashir Yasir on the occasion applauded the student actors for their enchanting performance. Emphasizing the significance of theatre in contemporary times, Bhawani said: “A nation without theatre is a dead nation because theatre makes us wise and vibrant. Values like honesty, dedication and new leadership skills could be built through theatre in educational institutions.” While extending his support, he said that he would provide free consultation on theatre to the Literati Club.

HoD, Dr Munejah Khan thanked the audience and the guests for their overwhelming appreciation. She also thanked the entire team for their successful performance.

“The artistic performance was a fusion of creativity from students of school of Humanities and Social Sciences and School of technology put together, thus a huge success,” she said.
