Pulwama, Nov 02: A youth from south Kashmir’s Pulwama district has qualified the ‘Senior Video Analyst Exam’ conducted by BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) on 12 October, 2018.

Sheikh Suhail, 30, hails from payer village 4 kms away from main town Pulwama. He has qualified one of the toughest examinations in the cricket world. “Nearly 80 to 90 candidates from all over India participated in the exam and only 12 of them, including me, qualified it,” says Suhail.

“The role of video analyst is assessing the umpire’s role in modern day cricket. The videos come handy for the technical officials to go through the decisions and asses the quality of umpiring,” he adds.

Suhail has been currently assigned the role of ‘video cum performance analyst’ for J&K team in the ongoing match of Ranji Trophy at Jaipur.

Suhail, who is a post graduate student in Mass Communication from Kashmir University, has played cricket under JKCA for under-19 and under-22 category before choosing the career of a video analyst.

“In 2010, I qualified the basics of ‘video analyst exam’, conducted by National Academy for Umpires Nagpur, and it was my entry in the field of cricket video analysis,” says Suhail.

“The second level of the exam for the same profession was held in 2013 at Nagpur Academy for Umpires and it was through my hard work and family support that helped me qualify this exam,” he says.

“And finally to my utmost satisfaction, I qualified the senior analyst examination on 12 October, 2018 and I am the only one from J&K who has qualified it,” says Suhail “It was a very tough.”

Suhail says that he is now eligible for the post of video analyst in any format of domestic cricket under BCCI. “Even I may be assigned work in IPL (Indian Premiere League) matches.”

Suhail says that being a cricket lover from childhood he always wanted to make a name in this field and finally his dream has come true. “Every one of us can achieve his/her dreams through hard work and perseverance along with the proper guidance.”

“Opportunities are available in every profession but youth in Kashmir lack guidance and support. Government should make arrangements for infrastructure at every district where budding cricketers can practice,” Suhail adds.
