Sakeena Itoo attends Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Cricket Tournament finale in Kulgam

Kulgam: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo on Monday attended the final match of the Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo Cricket Tournament at DH Pora in Kulgam district and reiterated the government’s commitment towards promoting sports and youth engagement across Jammu and Kashmir.

The tournament, organised in memory of late Shaheed Wali Mohammad Itoo, witnessed participation from several teams from different parts of the region and provided a platform for young players to showcase their sporting talent.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister appreciated the organisers for successfully conducting the tournament and creating a constructive platform for youth to participate in competitive sports. She said such events play an important role in promoting sportsmanship, discipline and healthy competition among young people.

Sakeena Itoo emphasised that sports contribute significantly towards character building, teamwork and positive engagement of youth. She said the government is committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and creating greater opportunities for youth participation in sporting activities across Jammu and Kashmir.

“The government is committed to empowering youth through sports, education and skill development. Sports not only improve physical well-being but also instil values of perseverance, leadership and mutual respect,” she said.

Highlighting the sporting potential of Jammu and Kashmir’s youth, the Minister urged young players to actively participate in sports and make full use of the facilities and opportunities being provided by the government. She assured continued support for initiatives aimed at nurturing talent and promoting youth-centric activities across the Union Territory.

Sakeena Itoo also appreciated the enthusiasm displayed by players and spectators, observing that such events help strengthen community bonds and inspire young people to pursue excellence in sports.

Later, the Minister distributed trophies, medals and certificates among the winning and runner-up teams and congratulated all participants for their spirited performances. She encouraged the players to continue striving for excellence and represent Jammu and Kashmir at higher levels of competition.
