Traders Federation Sopore elects new president

Sopore, Oct 28: Holding its 6th general election held here on Sunday, Traders Federation Sopore elected its President and other office bearers.

During the day long elections Qazi Hasmatullah Hashmi was elected as president for next three years.

The federation held its elections after three years. Out of 2999 votes, 21890 voters cast their votes. Qazi Hashmatullah secured 1180 votes defeating Mohammad Ashraf Ganaie who got 997 votes while 12 votes treated as rejected.

The voting started at 10 am and the results were declared at around 7pm. The polling centre was established at Guru nursing home in the town.

“This is a day of celebration and we are expecting that our issues would be sort out. Our town is facing negligence,” said a trader in the town, Faheem Iqbal Qadri.

“We elected Hashmi as president only to solve our problems as he promised to resolve our issues. We expect him to represent us wherever the need arises,” Faheem added.

Talking to the media, Hashmie said, “It is a great honour for me to act as the president of Traders Federation Sopore. I will work for the development of traders as I have worked in the past.

He alleged that the Government has neglected trade in sopore and he will raise the issues at concerned quarters.

People from different circles including administrative officers and civil society members, Anjuman moin-ul-islam members congratulated Ganaie for winning the election.
