Kulgam, October 12: The residents of Lawaypora Bala village in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are facing tough time due to non-availability of an electricity transformer from last four months.

A group of locals here while blaming the authorities of being in deep slumber told Kashmir Images that almost 75 families of Lawaypora Bala village have been left without electricity. “The government claims to have lighten every home in the country but the non-availability of the electricity in our village deflate these tall claims.”

They further said, “When sun goes down only a few solar lights and kerosene lumps break the darkness in the village and the worst part of our sufferings is that students are using kerosene lumps to study.”

“The department has already registered 75 households for the power connection with monthly charges of 370 rupees which we continued to pay till July of this year without even having access to electricity,” they added

Residents here demanded that government should install a 100 kV transformer in the village. “We have been knocking the door of PDD department from last four months but authorities are ignoring our repeated pleas.”

When contacted Executive Engineer PDD Kulgam he said, “My department acknowledges the legitimate grievance of the villagers Lawaypora Bala and I have already taken-up the matter with higher authorities of PDD requesting them to install a transformer in Lawaypora Bala village.”

“A 65 kV transformer is available for the village but the inhabitants are demanding a 100 KV transformer which is expensive as we are lacking sufficient funds, however, we will look for other alternatives,” he added.
