Shopian, October 03: The pathetic condition of Rakhama road in south Kashmir’s Shopian district has left the daily commuters and locals of the area fuming as they are facing immense difficulties owing to the bad condition of road and non-availability of vital bridge over a stream in the area.
A group of commuters told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the Rakhama road connects three villages including Kilbal, Zaipor and Bradypora. “The road is rife with potholes and the concerned authorities have never paid any heed to the sorry state of this road which was constructed by the public in 2006, while as the authorities have investing not a penny in its repairing,” they added.
One of the residents of village Rakhama, Mohammad Ishaq Khan said, “The concerned authorities have showed no interest to repair the road. In absence of public transport facility, daily commuters here are being compelled to walk miles to reach their respective destinations and also cross a knee-deep stream which sans a vital bridge.”
“The officials have taken no steps to ease our sufferings. During 2014 floods, the bridge was washed away by water and till now no bridge has been constructed over the stream, however, we managed to collect some funds on public level in order to construct a bridge but the funds didn’t prove sufficient as a result the work on the bridge has been left as such”, he added.
The locals demanded that authorities should repair the Rakhama road on priority basis.
When contacted Executive Engineer Roads and Building (R&B) department Shopian said that nobody has apprised the R&B department about the bad condition of road in the said area, however, he assured to verify the issue with the locals.
