SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 28: The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today directed Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to lift material from all dykes along river Jhelum immediately so that locals do not face any kind of problem.

The Divisional Commissioner made these directions while reviewing the status of dredging river at Srinagar, Baramulla and Sopore.

The meeting was informed that the Reach Company had lifted 6.89 cubic meters of silt in river Jhelum at Srinagar district against the target of 7 lac cubic meters. A total 12000 cubic meters of silt is lying at Shivpora dyke and 70,000 cubic meters at Sopore.

The Divisional Commissioner directed Reach Company to provide a calendar regarding the lifting of material from the said dykes to the concerned Deputy Commissioners within a week.

For safe and hassle-free lifting of material, Div Com directed Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Budgam and Baramulla to provide magistracy and police support to the Reach Company as per their calendar. Take strict action against those who create unnecessary hindrance in the lifting process, he further added.

He also asked concerned DCs to review the status of the material lifting fortnightly in their respective districts and send the report to the Divisional Commissioner’s office for further course of necessary action.

Khan asked Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control to ensure that the materials will be lifted from all dykes before the onset of winter months for the benefit of local population.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Syed Abid Rashid Shah, Chief Engineer M.M. Shahnawaz, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Assistant Commissioner, Representatives of Reach Company and other concerned officers were present in the meeting while as Deputy Commissioner Baramulla and Additional Deputy Commissioner Budgam participated the meeting through video conferencing.
