Srinagar, Sep 15: Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) has called for a shutdown on Monday in Kashmir against the killings of five militants and a civilian in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik appealed for a shutdown on Monday against the killings and “unabated use of force on people.”

A 24-year-old youth was killed after forces fired live ammunition and pellets to break up a protest near the site of a gunfight in Chowgam area of Qazigund earlier today that left five militants dead. Nerarkly two dozen other protestors were injured in the clashes that ensued during and after an encounter in which five militants were killed.

Geelani, Mirwaiz  and Malik while paying tributes said “these young martyrs are sacrificing their present for our best future”.

Expressing regrets on the “stubbornness of India and her military arrogance” which they termed as the main stumbling block in the way of peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute, JRL said “much blood has flown in the rivers of Kashmir; it needs a human heart to end the bloodshed and allow the subjugated people of Kashmir to decide their own fate according to their free will.”

In a separate statement, JRL also expressed concern over the Special Operation Group (SOG) of police summoning political leaders and activists to their camps.

The JRL appealed the UN and its Human Rights Commission and all other human rights organizations to take serious cognizance of a dangerous threat to the life of “pro-resistance” activists, “because persistent denial of political and civil rights to the people of Kashmir has made their lives vulnerable at the hands of SOG and other military agencies of India.”
