Welfare programmes for minorities reviewed in Leh

LEH, AUGUST 21: Member National Commission for Minorities Sulekha Kumbhare today chaired a meeting here to review the ongoing welfare schemes and programmes for minorities being implemented under Prime Minister’s 15 point agenda for the welfare of minorities in the district.

Kumbhare took a detailed review of all the welfare schemes being implemented in the district for the socio-economic uplift of minorities and tribal population including ICDS, scholarship and education loans for students under various schemes, Housing schemes under Indira Awas Yojna (IAY), medical care facilities Skill Training programmes, women empowerment programmes.

She asked DC Leh and other concerned to expedite progress on all the schemes and directed concerned HODs to organize awareness camps in the entire district and print leaflets highlighting Prime Minister’s 15 Point programmes in English, Hindi, Urdu and Ladakhi and Bhoti languages and circulate these leaflets in all the schools and community centres.

During the meeting, various community members raised issues concerning them. Giving a patient hearing to the demands, Kumbhare assured to take the demand for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule with the Minority Commission at Delhi.

She also assured to take the issues like relaxation in the age and qualification or availing various loan schemes for Leh district with the commission and directed DC Leh to give a detailed report about the sanctioned and vacant posts of MBBS doctors in the district.

The meeting was attended by ADC Leh Moses Kunzang, all the concerned HODs including managers of J&K EDI, SC/ST Development Corporation,   Vice President LBA P.T Kunzang, President Anjuman Imamiya Ashraf Ali Barcha, Vice President Anjuman Moin-ul-Islam Dr. Noor Mohammad, President Christian Community Dechen Chamgha and President Sikh Gurdwara Committee Harbans Singh.
