Reyaz Dar, a close associate of Maqbool Butt passes away

Srinagar: Reyaz Dar, 61, a close associate of founder leader of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) has breathed his last today at Muzaffarabad after suffering a severe heart attack.

Paying tributes to deceased Riyaz Dar, a JKLF spokesman in a statement said that he was a close associate of Muhammad Maqbool Butt who at the age of 16, came to Kashmir in 1976 along with Butt and JKLF senior vice chairman Abdul Hamid Butt and strived for freedom before being arrested at Langate Kupwara.

“Both Hamid Butt and Riyaz Dar were released and pushed back in 1988 after serving a jail term for about thirteen years. Both spent most of the time in Jammu jail during their incarceration,” the statement said.

His funeral prayers were offered in Muzaffarabad today. JKLF senior vice chairman Abdul Hamid Butt along with chief spokesman Rafiq Ahmad Dar and Deputy General Secretary Sajid Sidiqi along with thousands of people participated in his funeral prayers, said the statement.

Meanwhile, funeral prayers in absentia were held for the deceased at Lal Chowk Srinagar in which JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik along with many other leaders and people from many walks of life participated.

While paying rich tributes to deceased Reyaz Dar, JKLF chairman said that Reyaz sacrificed his youth for this nation and at a tender age of 16 travelled to Kashmir to challenge occupation. He endeavored hardships but never budged before tyranny and stood firm in the way of resistance.
