Kupwara, Aug 13: A man was found hanging from a tree at Durnad forest area of Hyhama in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
Locals said 53-years-old Abdul Majeed Awan, son of Ghulam Rasool Awan, a resident of Shali Bhata Manigah, was found hanging from a tree at Durnad forest area in Hyhama around 1 pm in the day, following which police was informed.
A police party from Police Station Kupwara rushed to the spot and took over the body for medico-legal formalities.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased may have committed suicide,” Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Kupwara, Mohammad Ashraf told the media.
Locals said that Awan was a labourer who was involved in some dispute with his in-laws.
Police has registered a case under section 176 RPC to investigate the matter.
