Kulgam, Aug 10:  The work on a major two-lane bride being constructed in Brazloo village of Kulgam district, which falls on NH-444 and connects Shopian with Pulwama and Qazigund, is going on at snail’s pace.

According to the locals here, the pier of the bridge was raised a few months ago and the same was damaged by the flood-water of Vaishu Nallah recently.

They said that a single-lane bridge which connects Shopian and Pulwama to Qazigund National Highway since a decade now is very narrow as it allows one-way passage of traffic only.

One of the residents of Brazloo village Bashir Ahmad Wani said, “We witness long traffic jams here, which last for hours. One-side traffic is halted for hours to let other side of traffic to pass over the bridge which becomes the main reason for the traffic mess.”

When contacted Deputy General Manager (DGM) JKPCC Kulgam Farooq Ahmad he said, “We have already set up the cutting edge (steel reinforcement) and also started work on the curb end of the bridge.”

R&B department is stressing us to use a batching plant for the bridge and we are looking for a team which can do it and soon after which the major construction work on the bridge will start,” he added.
