Srinagar: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Commissioner Dr Basharat Qayoom on Thursday inaugurated a two-day training programme for Phase II of Census 2027, focusing on accurate population enumeration across Srinagar’s urban areas.
Qayoom, who is the Principal Census Officer (Urban) for Srinagar, stressed the need for complete coverage of assigned areas, accurate recording of individual details and strict adherence to prescribed census procedures.
He called for effective coordination among charge officers, census resource personnel, census clerks, technical assistants and other functionaries to ensure uniform implementation of the enumeration process.
The training also focuses on preventing omissions, duplication and discrepancies in data collection, alongside maintaining confidentiality and ensuring the secure handling of census information.
Experts from the Census Department, including a deputy director, assistant director and district coordinator, briefed participants on census methodology, operational procedures, technical requirements and the responsibilities of different functionaries.
The sessions cover the collection, recording and verification of individual-level information, use of prescribed questionnaires, field-level procedures, supervisory mechanisms, digital tools and reporting protocols.
The programme was attended by the City Census Officer (Urban), charge officers, nodal officers of SMC and other census personnel.
Population Enumeration under Phase II of Census 2027 involves collecting demographic, socio-economic, educational and other prescribed information. The data will serve as a basis for policymaking, development planning and assessment of civic infrastructure and public service requirements.
