New Delhi: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday met members of the Indian women’s kabaddi team at Rail Bhawan and congratulated them on winning gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
India defeated Iran 37-34 in a closely contested final on September 26 to defend its Asian Games title.
Vaishnaw congratulated the players, including those employed with Indian Railways, for their dedication and sporting achievements, saying their victory had brought laurels to the country.
The team was coached by Neeta Moreshwar Dadwe and captained by Pushpa Rana.
Those who met the minister included head coach Dadwe and players Ritu Negi and Pinky Roy of South Central Railway, Pooja of Northern Railway, and Sonali Vishnu Shingate and Raj Rani of Western Railway.
Indian Railways promotes sporting talent through the Railway Sports Promotion Board, providing sportspersons opportunities to pursue their athletic careers alongside employment. Its athletes have represented India at major international competitions, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.
