Leh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to virtually inaugurate major infrastructure projects in the Union Territory of Ladakh on October 15, including the expanded terminal building at Leh airport and key roads and bridges, with inauguration functions planned across all seven districts.
According to reports citing officials, the ceremony is scheduled for 11 am, with the Prime Minister expected to address the gathering after inaugurating the projects through video conferencing from New Delhi. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and other senior officials and dignitaries are expected to participate in the main function from Leh.
The new terminal building at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh is among the major projects slated for inauguration. Developed at an estimated cost of more than Rs 600 crore, the three-level facility spans nearly 23,000 square metres and is designed to handle up to 3.5 million passengers annually.
The expanded facility is expected to significantly enhance the airport’s passenger-handling capacity and improve air connectivity to the strategically important Union Territory, particularly during periods of high tourist traffic.
Besides the airport terminal, several major road and bridge projects are also expected to be inaugurated. The infrastructure works are aimed at improving connectivity across Ladakh, including remote and border areas, while strengthening road links important for civilian movement and strategic requirements.
Inauguration functions are planned in all seven districts of Ladakh, where Deputy Commissioners, police officers, socio-religious leaders and other dignitaries are expected to participate. [KNT]
