Srinagar/New Delhi: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday alleged that the Election Commission is colluding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to distort the people’s mandate in Jammu and Kashmir.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi, CM Omar, according to the news agency KNO, questioned the delimitation exercise that led to the addition of seven Assembly seats in the Union Territory.

“Why was delimitation carried out in our case (J&K)? Wasn’t it done solely to benefit the BJP? Seven seats were added. How many of those seven seats did the BJP win? Six. That tells you everything, doesn’t it? Even at that time, we were saying that the Election Commission was colluding with the BJP to distort the people’s mandate in Jammu and Kashmir. The same pattern is continuing even today.”

Omar Abdullah joined an INDIA bloc delegation that met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to raise concerns over the functioning of the Election Commission of India.

The delegation submitted a memorandum seeking the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral irregularities. It also sought suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and wider electoral reforms.

As per details, the delegation included Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby, NCP-SCP MP Supriya Sule, RJD MP Manoj Jha and other INDIA bloc leaders.

Earlier, opposition MPs attempted to march from Parliament towards the Election Commission but were stopped by police at Vijay Chowk, where several leaders staged a sit-in before the delegation proceeded to Rashtrapati Bhavan.
