Shopian, October 9: The Inter-District Union Territory-level Thang-Ta Championship for girls across all age groups was inaugurated in Shopian on Friday, bringing together players from different districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
The championship aims to provide athletes with an opportunity to compete at the Union Territory level while promoting Thang-Ta, a traditional martial art, among young people.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by the District Youth Services and Sports Officer (DYSSO), Shopian, along with participating athletes, coaches, technical officials, escort teachers and other officials associated with the event.
Addressing the gathering, the DYSSO highlighted the role of sports in promoting physical fitness, discipline, confidence, teamwork and leadership among young people.
He urged participants to uphold sportsmanship, respect their opponents and officials, and use the competition as an opportunity to improve their skills.
The championship is expected to provide players with exposure to higher-level competition and contribute to the promotion of sports in Jammu and Kashmir.
