UDHAMPUR: Kashmir Division emerged champion in the Inter-Division Women’s Softball Tournament, while Udhampur Royal Softball Club secured the sub-junior and junior titles as the District Udhampur Softball Championship 2026-27 concluded at Subash Stadium here on Thursday.
The championship was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council with technical support from the District Udhampur Softball Association.
More than 280 athletes representing registered clubs, schools and colleges from across Udhampur district participated in the competition, which featured sub-junior, junior and senior categories for boys, girls, men and women.
In the Inter-Division Women’s Softball Tournament, held under the ‘Nari Shakti Abhiyan’, Kashmir Division lifted the championship trophy, while Jammu Division finished runners-up.
At the district level, Udhampur Royal Softball Club dominated the competition by winning both the sub-junior and junior titles.
Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Minga Sherpa, who recently received orders for transfer as Deputy Commissioner Jammu, attended the valedictory function as chief guest and declared the championship closed.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer Udhampur Tarsem Sharma and Subash Stadium Manager Suraj Bhan were among the guests present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sherpa appreciated the organisers for conducting the championship and said such events help promote sports and encourage young athletes. He also lauded the efforts of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and the District Softball Association in promoting softball.
Medals and trophies were distributed among the winners, runners-up and second runners-up teams across various categories during the closing ceremony.
The championship was sponsored by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council.
