Baramulla: The Education Department has initiated the installation of RO water purifiers and CCTV cameras in government schools across the Wagoora-Kreeri constituency under the District Capex Budget 2026-27 and the Constituency Development Scheme (CDS).
According to an official communication from the Chief Education Officer (CEO), Baramulla, the tendering process for both projects has been completed through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.
Officials said RO water purifiers will be installed in 29 schools at an estimated cost of ₹18.71 lakh. The contract has been awarded to M/S Sabs Enterprises.
The final list of schools was prepared after verification of recommendations submitted by Congress MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone. Three schools—Higher Secondary School Hygam, High School Tapper Waripora Bala and Boys High School Radaygam—were excluded as RO systems had already been installed there during 2025-26.
The CEO’s office said specifications of the proposed installations have been shared with the MLA and that the facilities will be commissioned after completion of the work.
In a parallel initiative, CCTV cameras will be installed in five middle schools in the constituency. The project, valued at ₹17.49 lakh, has been allotted to M/S PC World. Officials said the schools were selected on the basis of highest student enrolment.
The administration said other works proposed under the CDS for 2026-27 are also under process and details would be communicated separately.
Welcoming the development, MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone said the projects were being implemented in response to public demand. He expressed hope that similar facilities would be extended to other schools in the constituency.
The legislator also said that smart boards had been installed in schools and classroom benches provided as part of ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure in the area.
