BARAMULLA, Oct 3: Baramulla Police have recovered ₹6.70 lakh and refunded the amount to a victim in a cyber fraud case in which ₹11.70 lakh was allegedly siphoned off through an online financial scam, officials said on Saturday.

According to police, the recovery was made during the investigation of FIR No. 03/2026 registered at Cyber Police Station Baramulla under relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said investigators traced the defrauded funds through technical analysis and examination of financial transactions. The recovered amount was subsequently restored to the victim.

The investigation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters Baramulla Shahjahan Chowdhary and led by Inspector Sajad Wani, Station House Officer of Cyber Police Station Baramulla.

Officials said efforts are continuing to trace the remaining amount and identify all those involved in the alleged fraud.

Police said the recovery underscores the importance of promptly reporting online financial frauds, as timely intervention can help authorities and banks trace and freeze disputed transactions.

Baramulla Police advised the public not to share one-time passwords (OTPs), PINs, CVV numbers, passwords or UPI credentials with anyone and cautioned against clicking suspicious links, downloading unverified applications or scanning unknown QR codes.

Victims of cyber financial fraud have been urged to immediately contact the national cybercrime helpline 1930, inform their bank and report incidents through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
