BARAMULLA: The Transport Department has sealed seven car showrooms in Baramulla district for allegedly operating without mandatory trade authorisation, officials said on Saturday.

The action was taken by the office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Baramulla, during an enforcement drive launched following directions from the Transport Commissioner, Jammu and Kashmir.

ARTO Baramulla Mudasir Wani said the inspections were carried out to verify compliance with statutory requirements governing the sale and trade of motor vehicles. During the drive, officials checked the authorisation status of dealerships and examined the availability of requisite permissions and documents.

According to the department, seven establishments were found operating without the required trade authorisation and were subsequently sealed.

Officials said the exercise was aimed at ensuring compliance with regulatory provisions and bringing vehicle dealerships within the formal legal framework governing automobile trade.

The department has advised dealers and other businesses engaged in vehicle-related activities to obtain and maintain all necessary permissions in accordance with applicable regulations.

Officials said inspection drives would continue across the district and action would be taken against establishments found violating prescribed norms.

The enforcement campaign is part of the Transport Department’s efforts to strengthen regulatory oversight of vehicle dealerships and curb unauthorised commercial operations in the sector.
