SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that relief and restoration measures are underway in the flood- and landslide-affected districts of Poonch and Rajouri, with nearly ₹497 lakh disbursed to affected families and restoration plans worth more than ₹67 crore prepared for damaged infrastructure.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary made the statement while replying to a Calling Attention Motion moved by MLA Ajaz Ahmad Jan on behalf of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who holds the Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction portfolio.
He said the government was closely monitoring the situation and focusing on restoration of connectivity and essential services, preparation of permanent restoration plans and distribution of relief among affected families.
The House was informed that ₹400 lakh was approved for Poonch, of which ₹216.38 lakh was released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and disbursed among affected families. An additional ₹137 lakh received from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has also been fully distributed.
In Rajouri, ₹218.14 lakh has been disbursed under SDRF norms, while ₹281 lakh received through the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund is being provided to 377 beneficiaries.
The government said Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for permanent restoration of public infrastructure have been prepared and are under consideration. In Poonch, DPRs worth ₹214.04 crore have been prepared covering sectors including education, power, roads and bridges, water supply and khuls. In Rajouri, DPRs worth ₹460.23 crore have been prepared for projects under the Public Works Department, Jal Shakti Department and power sub-transmission infrastructure.
According to the government, flash floods and landslides in Poonch claimed 14 lives, while eight persons remain missing and two were injured. A total of 379 houses were affected, along with around 200 livestock and 44 poultry birds. Damage was also reported to 217.7 hectares of agricultural land and two hectares of horticulture land.
In Rajouri, four people lost their lives, 432 houses were affected and 48 livestock were lost.
The government said that in Poonch, 388 roads, 55 bridges, 72 water supply schemes and 29 power distribution transformer stations or transformers were damaged. All roads and 11 bridges have been temporarily restored, while other essential infrastructure has also been restored on a temporary basis.
In Rajouri, damage was reported to 562 roads and bridges, 5,283 electricity poles, 27 distribution transformers, 228 water supply schemes, 112 irrigation and flood control schemes, 23 schools, eight health facilities, 1.9 hectares of horticulture land and 517 hectares of agricultural land. Temporary restoration of the affected infrastructure was completed within a month, the government said.
The House was also informed that the matter has been taken up with the Ministry of Home Affairs for deputation of an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) to assess the impact of flash floods, floods, cloudbursts and landslides during the 2026 monsoon in Jammu and Kashmir.
