SRINAGAR: The government on Tuesday informed the Legislative Assembly that Chaki Badwani in Kulgam district is already connected to the Kulgam-Qazigund road through an existing road network and also has an alternative all-weather road link.
Replying to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Abdul Majid Larmi regarding connectivity issues between the Kulgam-Qazigund road and Chaki Badwani, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary said the area is connected through the Chaki Badwani-Malikabad Kewa Wanpora road.
He told the House that the road was sanctioned during the 2000-01 financial year and executed under Phase-I by the Rural Engineering Wing of the Rural Development Department.
The deputy chief minister said the project was completed in 2005, as recorded on the Online Management, Monitoring and Accounting System (OMMAS) portal, and was initially handed over to the Public Works (R&B) Department for maintenance before being transferred back to the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) authorities.
Choudhary informed the Assembly that the road was proposed for renewal under the Construction and Technology (C&T) programme during 2025-26. However, the proposal could not be processed and was subsequently dropped due to jurisdictional issues. He said the department is pursuing the matter for resolution.
The deputy chief minister further stated that Chaki Badwani is also connected through an alternative all-weather route from the Railway Station Bridge to Chaki Badwani Chinar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the R&B Division Kulgam and provides connectivity with Qazigund.
