SRINAGAR: Potable water supply will remain affected in several parts of Srinagar and adjoining areas on September 27 and 28 due to a reduction in raw water availability at key water treatment plants, the Jal Shakti Department said on Sunday.
According to a public notice issued by the Executive Engineer, Water Works Division Srinagar, a sudden reduction in discharge in the Sindh Power Canal by Power Development Corporation authorities has affected water flow in the S.E. Canal, impacting raw water supply to the Alusteng and Rangil water treatment plants.
The department said the disruption is likely to affect drinking water supply in major parts of the city during the two-day period.
Areas expected to be affected include Zakoora, Gulab Bagh, Alusteng, Khalmulla, Habak, Naseem Bagh, Busserbugh, Malla Bagh, Pandach, Buchpora, Soura, Anchar, Bohlouchpora, Zoonimar, Nowshera, Bagh-i-Ali Mardan Khan, Zadibal, Hawal, Alamgari Bazar, Rajouri Kadal, Nallahmar, Nawakadal, Bohri Kadal, Nowhatta, Lal Bazar, Hazratbal, Sadribal, Nigeen, Saida Kadal, parts of Rainawari, Khanyar, Nowpora, Nawab Bazar, Ganpatyar, Habba Kadal, Baghwanpora, Basant Bagh, Chota Bazar, Karan Nagar, Chattabal, Kawdara, Eidgah, Maharaj Gunj, Zaina Kadal, Saidpora, Firdous Abad, parts of Batmaloo, Qamarwari and adjoining localities.
The department advised residents in the affected areas to store sufficient water to meet their requirements during the disruption.
It said the PHE Provincial Control Room would remain operational round the clock to address complaints and grievances related to water scarcity and supply shortages.
