SHOPIAN: The Union Territory-level Inter-Divisional Wushu Championship for Under-17 and Under-19 girls began in Shopian on Saturday, bringing together young athletes from districts across Jammu and Kashmir.
The championship is being organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Shopian.
The event was inaugurated by District Youth Services and Sports Officer Shopian, Mohammad Ayoub Bhat, who highlighted the role of sports in promoting discipline, fitness, confidence and unity among young people.
A large number of players from both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions are participating in the competition, officials said.
The opening day witnessed several bouts and enthusiastic participation from the athletes, showcasing emerging talent in the sport.
Officials said arrangements, including boarding, lodging, transportation, medical assistance and technical support, have been put in place for the participants.
The championship will continue over the next few days, featuring competitions among young Wushu players from across the Union Territory.
