Budgam: Deputy Commissioner Budgam Athar Aamir Khan on Tuesday reviewed the implementation of the Green India Mission (GIM) in the district and discussed the proposed GIM Perspective Plan for 2026-2031, under which 53.3 hectares of degraded forest land have been identified for restoration.
The review meeting was attended by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Budgam Syed Waseem and officials from the Forest, Rural Development, Agriculture, Jammu and Kashmir Energy Development Agency (JAKEDA) and other departments.
Officials informed the meeting that the identified degraded forest land falls under the Pir Panjal Forest Division, Budgam, and the Special Forest Division, Tangmarg, and has been proposed for intervention under the Green India Mission during the 2026-31 period.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on the proposed perspective plan, including strategies for restoration of degraded forest areas and implementation of various components of the mission.
The Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for coordinated and result-oriented implementation of the programme and directed concerned departments to ensure that all proposed interventions are properly planned, technically sound and suited to local ecological conditions.
He also called for close coordination among departments, timely completion of preparatory work and sustained efforts to ensure the long-term success of restoration activities.
Athar said the Green India Mission should contribute towards improving forest cover, restoring degraded ecosystems and enhancing environmental sustainability in the district.
Following deliberations, the committee recommended forwarding the GIM Perspective Plan 2026-31 to the Union Territory Steering Committee for further consideration and approval.
