Srinagar: Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, emerged champions of the District Administration’s Under-19 Football Rolling Trophy-2026 after defeating Sri Pratap Model Higher Secondary School in the final played at the Rugby Field, Polo View, here on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo attended the grand finale and presented trophies and medals to the winning and runner-up teams.
Organised by the District Youth Services and Sports Office in collaboration with the District Administration Srinagar, the tournament saw participation from around 400 athletes representing various schools across the district.
Sheikh Arshan Asif of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar, was adjudged the player of the tournament.
Addressing the gathering, Labroo said the District Administration had launched the Rolling Trophy Championship to provide platforms for young people to showcase their talent in sports as well as cultural and academic activities, including drawing, painting, singing competitions, seminars and debates.
He said such initiatives were aimed at nurturing talent, encouraging healthy competition and creating opportunities for youth to excel in different fields.
The Deputy Commissioner urged young people to participate actively in sports and stay away from drug abuse, highlighting the role of sports in promoting discipline, teamwork, leadership and a healthy lifestyle.
He also administered an oath to participating athletes under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, calling upon them to contribute towards building a drug-free society.
Labroo congratulated the winning and runner-up teams and appreciated the efforts of coaches, officials and organisers in conducting the tournament.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Aadil Fareed, IAS probationers Aakash Garg and Sai Kiran, Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar, District Youth Services and Sports Officer Ghulam Hassan and other officials were present at the event.
