Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness largely dry weather till the end of September, with brief spells of rain expected at isolated places in North and Central Kashmir on September 24 and 27, the Meteorological Department said on Saturday.
According to the MeT Centre, weak Western Disturbances are likely to affect the region during the evenings of September 24 and 27, bringing light rainfall to isolated areas. No major weather activity has been forecast for the remainder of the month.
The department advised farmers to take advantage of the prevailing weather conditions for harvesting apples, paddy and carrying out other agricultural operations.
Meanwhile, temperatures remained below normal at most places across Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours.
Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 27.5°C, close to the normal of 27.4°C, while the minimum settled at 10.5°C, which was 1.5°C below normal.
Qazigund recorded a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 8°C, while Pahalgam registered 22.5°C and 5.2°C respectively. Kupwara recorded a maximum temperature of 28°C, Kukernag 25.2°C and Gulmarg 18.2°C, the lowest maximum temperature recorded in the Valley.
In Jammu division, Jammu city was the hottest place with a maximum temperature of 32.2°C and a minimum of 20.6°C. Katra recorded 31°C and 18.2°C, while Banihal recorded 27.8°C and 11°C respectively. Bhadarwah recorded a maximum temperature of 27.4°C and a minimum of 8.4°C.
No significant rainfall was reported across most stations. However, rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am was recorded at a few places, including 9.4 mm at Kukernag and 1.2 mm each at Qazigund and Batote.
The MeT department reiterated its advisory to farmers to make optimal use of the predominantly dry weather for harvesting and other farm-related activities.
