Jammu: Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Thursday laid the foundation stones for restoration of 93 flood-damaged water supply schemes and a riverbank protection project on the Tawi in Jammu East and Nagrota constituencies, involving an expenditure of ₹14.69 crore.
The restoration of 93 water supply schemes, damaged during the August-September 2025 floods, will be undertaken at a cost of ₹11.29 crore under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) Disaster Mitigation scheme. The works aim to restore damaged infrastructure and improve the resilience of water supply systems against future flood-related disruptions.
Rana also laid the foundation stone for a ₹3.40 crore riverbank protection project on the Tawi near Government Degree College, Sidhra. The project is intended to strengthen the riverbank and protect adjoining areas from erosion and flood damage.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the government was focusing on strengthening vulnerable infrastructure, restoring flood-damaged assets and building systems capable of withstanding future natural disasters.
“Access to safe drinking water is a basic necessity and the government is committed to restoring every scheme damaged in last year’s floods without delay,” he said.
Rana directed executing agencies to maintain quality standards, ensure timely completion of works and undertake regular monitoring to avoid delays. He also stressed the need for climate-resilient public infrastructure and closer coordination between departments, administration and elected representatives.
MLA Nagrota Devyani Rana, MLA Jammu East Yudhvir Sethi, senior Jal Shakti Department officers and local residents attended the programme.
