KULGAM: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested three alleged drug peddlers, including a woman, in two separate operations in Kulgam district and recovered 190.5 grams of a heroin-like substance from their possession.
According to police, a woman was apprehended during a naka checking operation at Upper Market Qazigund near Town Hall. During a search of her bag, officers allegedly recovered 20.5 grams of a heroin-like substance packed in a polythene envelope.
The accused was identified as Aqsa Bashir, daughter of Bashir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Hardpora Akinpora in Anantnag district. Police said a case under FIR No. 221/2026 has been registered at Police Station Qazigund and investigation is underway.
In a separate operation, police established a naka near the north portal of the Navyug Tunnel and intercepted a Swift Dzire vehicle bearing registration number JK09E-9019.
Police said 170 grams of a heroin-like substance was allegedly recovered from the possession of two occupants of the vehicle, identified as Imran Mir, son of Mohammad Akram Mir, and Muhbat Dar, son of Maqsood Ahmad Dar, both residents of Karnah in Kupwara district.
Both were arrested and a case under FIR No. 222/2026 was registered at Police Station Qazigund, police said.
Officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and identify any other persons allegedly involved in the case.
