KISHTWAR: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Wednesday said the Omar Abdullah-led government was focusing on inclusive development across Jammu and Kashmir, with particular attention to rural and remote areas.
Addressing a public meeting at Chatroo in the Inderwal Assembly constituency, Choudhary said development projects had gained momentum since the National Conference-led government assumed office and that efforts were being made to improve infrastructure and public services across the Union Territory.
According to Choudhary, sectors such as tourism, roads, water supply, health and education were receiving priority to improve service delivery and create opportunities for future generations.
The meeting was chaired by National Conference District President Kishtwar Tanveer Ahmad Kichloo.
During the event, MLA Inderwal Pyare Lal Sharma presented what he described as a report on development works undertaken in the constituency. He highlighted projects related to roads, water supply, health and education, and referred to several other works and a proposed tunnel project in the pipeline.
Sharma said the projects were contributing to employment generation and thanked the government for supporting development initiatives in the area.
Addressing the gathering, National Conference Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), alleging that several commitments made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir remained unfulfilled.
Gupta referred to assurances regarding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and said delays in the process had disappointed many residents. He also said the existing governance arrangement involving the elected government and the Lieutenant Governor’s administration had, in his view, affected decision-making and development.
He said the National Conference would continue to raise issues related to development, employment, infrastructure, public services, statehood and socio-economic welfare.
The BJP was not immediately available for comment on the allegations made by the NC leaders.
