BARAMULLA: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sunil Sharma on Wednesday held a public outreach camp in Baramulla, where residents and representatives from Baramulla, Kupwara and Bandipora raised a range of civic and employment-related issues ahead of the upcoming Assembly session.
The interaction, held at Dak Bungalow Baramulla, was part of the BJP legislative group’s pre-session outreach programme across Jammu and Kashmir. BJP General Secretary Anwar Khan, All Cells Co-Incharge and Baramulla Prabhari Bilal Parray, and other party leaders were also present.
Sharma said the BJP legislative group had decided to visit district headquarters across the Union Territory before the Assembly session to gather public feedback and identify issues requiring attention.
According to Sharma, residents raised concerns related to roads, bridges, drinking water supply, tourism, electricity charges, unemployment, outsourced workers, National Health Mission (NHM) employees, Anganwadi workers and the conduct of municipal elections.
He said employment-related grievances, particularly those concerning unemployed youth and workers, required attention from the government. He also stressed the need to address issues relating to local governance and civic infrastructure.
Sharma said many of the concerns highlighted by residents pertained to basic public services and governance and should be addressed at the grassroots level.
Referring to municipal elections, the BJP leader said strengthening local democratic institutions was important for effective governance and development.
He said the issues raised during the outreach programme would be taken up in the Assembly and with the concerned authorities.
The outreach initiative is being conducted by the BJP legislative group ahead of the Assembly session to collect public feedback and raise local issues through legislative forums, party leaders said.
During the programme, Sharma also criticised the National Conference-led government, alleging misgovernance and anti-people policies. The ruling National Conference was not immediately available for comment on the allegations.
