MANKOTE (MENDHAR): Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment and Tribal Affairs Javed Ahmed Rana on Monday announced funding for the development of three heritage and religious sites in Mankote area of Poonch district as part of efforts to promote heritage and religious tourism in the Pir Panjal region.
Addressing a public gathering in Mankote, Rana said ₹173 lakh had been earmarked for the development of the historic Ramkund Temple, while ₹78 lakh and ₹86 lakh had been allocated for the development of Lower Devta and Chotey Shah, respectively.
The minister said the sites hold religious, cultural and heritage significance and attract pilgrims and visitors from different areas. He added that the proposed infrastructure development was aimed at preserving these locations and improving facilities for visitors.
According to Rana, the projects are expected to strengthen the region’s tourism potential and create opportunities for local employment and economic activity.
He also briefed residents on various development works and government schemes being implemented in the area, including projects approved or proposed during the 2026-27 financial year. He said efforts were being made to improve infrastructure, public amenities and development opportunities in the region.
Later, the minister chaired a review meeting with officials of various departments to assess the progress of ongoing projects. During the meeting, he directed officers to ensure timely completion of development works and maintain quality standards in their execution.
Rana said the government would continue its focus on inclusive and balanced development across the region, with emphasis on extending the benefits of development initiatives to rural areas and local communities.
