LEH: Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena has approved an ex gratia compensation package of ₹1.52 crore for the families of those killed and injured in the violence that took place in Ladakh on September 24, 2025.
Under the package, the next of kin of each of the four persons who died in the incident will receive ₹15 lakh. The administration has also sanctioned ₹3 lakh each for 24 people who sustained major injuries and ₹1 lakh each for 20 people who suffered minor injuries.
According to the Ladakh administration, the total compensation outlay includes ₹60 lakh for the families of the deceased, ₹72 lakh for those with major injuries and ₹20 lakh for those with minor injuries.
The violence resulted in four deaths and injuries to 44 civilians, including those categorised as having sustained major and minor injuries, officials said.
The administration said Ladakh did not have a general policy governing compensation for deaths or injuries arising from incidents of public unrest or rioting. Following the incident, the matter was examined to provide humanitarian assistance to affected families and individuals.
According to officials, the issue was taken up on priority after Saxena assumed office as Lieutenant Governor in March this year, leading to the formulation and approval of the compensation package.
In a statement, Saxena said that while financial assistance could not compensate for the loss of life or the suffering endured by victims, the administration stood with the affected families and individuals in their recovery and rehabilitation.
The Lieutenant Governor also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his support and guidance on the matter, according to the statement.
