SRINAGAR: Police in Baramulla and Anantnag districts have seized 20 vehicles, including 12 tractors and eight tippers, during a crackdown on the illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals, officials said on Sunday.
In Baramulla, police conducted intensified checking at Delina and intercepted six tippers allegedly transporting mineral material without valid permission or the required documents.
According to police, the vehicles were found violating regulatory provisions and were subsequently seized. The owners and operators have been fined under relevant provisions of the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act and associated rules, while further action has been initiated.
In Anantnag, police carried out checking operations during the intervening night as part of an ongoing drive against illegal mining activities. During the operation, 12 tractors and two tippers were seized for allegedly transporting minor minerals illegally.
Police said cases have been registered at different police stations in Anantnag district in connection with the violations.
Further investigation and legal proceedings are underway, officials said.
