AWANTIPORA: Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor of the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), has been elected a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI), one of the country’s premier scientific institutions.
Established in 1930, NASI is the oldest science academy in India. The fellowship recognises distinguished contributions to scientific research and scholarship.
Prof. Romshoo will be formally inducted into the academy during its 96th annual session, scheduled to be held at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, in December 2026.
A noted Earth and environmental scientist, Prof. Romshoo has contributed extensively to the fields of glaciology, hydrology, climate change and remote sensing. His research has focused particularly on assessing the impact of climate change on Himalayan glaciers and regional water resources.
He is also a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and holds fellowships of the Indian Society of Remote Sensing and the Indian Society of Geomatics.
Prof. Romshoo is a recipient of the J.C. Bose Fellowship and has received several international, national and state-level awards for his contributions to scientific research and environmental studies.
