TANGMARG: A severe hailstorm that struck several villages in the Kunzer area during the intervening night of Friday and Saturday caused extensive damage to orchards and agricultural crops, dealing a major setback to farmers and orchardists.
According to local residents, the intensity of the hailstorm was such that a thick layer of ice accumulated across fields and orchards within a short span of time. The hailstorm caused ripe fruit to fall from trees, while paddy crops were flattened in many areas.
The worst-affected villages include Kadi Bagh, Maghama, Krishhama, Harda Nabi, Dewbugh Yal, Lalpora, Nangarpora, Habul Gam, Chak Charat Ram, Mirgund and Narapora, where orchardists and farmers reported significant losses.
MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah visited the affected areas along with officials from the Revenue, Horticulture and Agriculture departments to assess the damage.
During the visit, Shah reviewed the extent of losses suffered by farmers and orchard owners and assured affected residents that all possible assistance would be provided. He also directed the concerned departments to carry out a detailed assessment of the damage and submit reports for necessary relief measures.
